S2S Military Friendly School
S2S Military Friendly School

Through the hard work and dedication of the Student 2 Student program, Swansboro High School has been named the 2017-2018 Military Friendly School of the year. This is the second consecutive year that Swansboro has been the recipient of the award and third time in the last five years.  After a competition where students had to create a welcome video for their high school, Onslow County military liaison Brittany Norman along with Lejeune liaisons Julie Fulton and Donna Grady chose Swansboro for the honor.

Swansboro’s S2S program welcomes incoming students to our school, provides tours for new students, and are always available to help new students with questions and concerns they have when joining the community.  S2S also plans and implements the Freshman Orientation along with new student parties and military child support meetings.  In the community, Swansboro’s S2S visits elementary schools to explain the life of a military child and how to cope with challenges that arise, as well as volunteering at the Onslow Festival of Trees and Wreaths Across America.  In conjunction with Camp Lejeune, S2S also volunteers at the Wounded Warrior Battalion’s Halloween and Christmas parties, and has thrown a Military Spirit week at Swansboro High.

Last year, Swansboro High School’s S2S hosted the first regional S2S Summit where students from 9 area schools came together to collaborate on their best practices to incorporate new students into their schools and community.  Swansboro will be hosting the second annual S2S Summit on January 22, 2018, this time with 19 schools attending.

Swansboro S2S club advisers are Erik Matticola and Nalani Nelson.  S2S Co-President Bogue Dick was responsible for making the video that won the Military Friendly School competition for Swansboro.
